ABOUT US
OUR
VISION
What inspires our purpose, what drives our growth, and what compels us to action is love. The divine love that we experience from God can’t help but overflow as love for our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, and for a world that needs hope. And so, our vision is simple: Loving God. Loving each other. Loving our neighbour.
LOVING GOD
We express our love for God when we gather together for worship, and we foster that love when we spend reading His Word and in prayer. God longs for us to know the full extent of His love, and He reveals His plans and purposes for each and every one of us when we take the time to be in His presence.
He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’;
— Luke 10:27a
LOVING EACH OTHER
There is something incredible that happens when we journey together in faith. God wants to use each of us to extend His love to one another as a reminder that we are not alone on this journey of faith. We have the opportunity to encourage and strengthen one another – building each other up. As the body of Christ, we all have a role to play and we cannot be a healthy church without everyone on board. As our God-given gifts and calling are revealed in each of us, we work together to nurture that growth and those opportunities to express them.
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
— Acts 2:42-47
LOVING OUR NEIGHBOUR
Each of us has the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus. A genuine relationship with God can’t help but express itself in the way we love those around us. Consider this: Somewhere along the way in our own faith journeys, someone took the time to tell us about God’s love, and now we enjoy fellowship with Him. Who are we to stand in the way of others having that same opportunity to experience the love of their Creator? And so we seek out ways to love our neighbours, both locally and abroad, in the hopes that they come to know the God who loves them.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
— Luke 10:27b
VISION
MISSION Statement
Our calling as a church is to nurture the spiritual growth of believers in their walk with God. We shouldn’t be Christians by name only, but in the way we live. Our desire is to see people sold out for God, living their lives in complete surrender to His plans and purposes. When we are fully devoted in our relationship with God and we desire to know him, there is no stopping the overflow of love and joy to want others to experience the same life transformation!
VALUES
Core Values
1 Connect
Fellowship with God and His family
You were designed to know your Creator and to thrive in community with other believers. At River Oaks we offer opportunities for you to connect with God through gatherings like our Sunday services. Through songs of worship and the preaching of God’s Word, we invite you to know God more and strengthen your relationship with Him. And along with your relationship with God, we know how vital it is to have healthy relationships with your church family. On your journey of faith, it’s an incredible gift to not walk that journey alone but to have a community of faith that encourages you as you go.
2 Grow
Discipleship in Christ
A thriving relationship with God is exemplified by your desire to be who God wants you to be. There is no greater example to follow than the one set by Jesus. At River Oaks we want to encourage you to be a fully devoted follower of Christ. Through Bible study, small groups, and other ministries, you have the opportunity to discover how God has uniquely made you and desires for you to fulfill your God-give purpose.
3 Serve
Service through The Holy Spirit
When you come to realize all the love God has for you and the joy the comes with discovering your God-give purpose, you can’t help but have that love overflow to the people around you. Not only does God give you His Holy Spirit to walk with you on your journey of faith, but The Holy Spirit empowers you for the purpose of being a witness. When you discover the gifts and passions God has given, you realize they are meant to be shared so others can experience God’s love as well. Be it in the church, in our community, or somewhere around the world, each of us is called to serve and love our neighbour.
What We Believe
The Holy Bible is divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit, and is the infallible, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God.
There is one God, eternally existent in the Persons of the Holy Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus was born of the virgin Mary, both fully God and fully man, and lived a sinless life. Jesus Through his death, the eternal all-sufficiency of His atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the Father’s right hand, and that He will come again.
Justification is a judicial act of God on the believer’s behalf solely on the merits of Christ, and regeneration by the power of the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation.
The Holy Spirit dwells within the believer and provides for Spirit baptism according to Acts 2:4, through whom the gifts of the Holy Spirit are made manifest for the purposes of building the church and reaching the lost.
Christ is the head of the church, and we follow His ordinances of the Lord’s Supper and water baptism by immersion for believers.
Our great hope is for the imminent return of Christ to receive his own, both the living who will be transformed, and the dead in Christ who will be resurrected bodily.

Juan Parra
Assistant Pastor, Student Ministries

He sensed a calling to pastoral ministry from a very young age, but it wasn’t until years later when he was 23 years old at a missions conference that he finally surrendered to God’s will. Juan left his current job to pursue Christian education a graduated from Master’s College & Seminary with a Bachelor of Religious Education with highest honors, and is currently enrolled in Wycliffe College’s Master of Theological Studies program part-time. Juan has been pastoring alongside his wife Neiel for the past two years, and together they feel compelled to work toward God’s purpose of transforming younger generations and raising them up to establish his Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.

Joyce Swan
Office Administrator
Joyce Swan
Joyce worked for 42 years in the dental profession as a Dental Assistant, Receptionist, and then as Office Administrator. God blessed Joyce early in her career with the gifts of organization and the skill to put everything together, as well as the gift of observation to see what needed to change to foster an exciting work environment. As a reflection of God’s gifting on Joyce, she would eventually run three offices. Two of these offices she saw grow from the ground up, which was a dream of hers that she saw fulfilled. Joyce took early retirement to look after her husband when he became ill, but God continued to use her gifts to organize her husband’s care with appointments, his medication and looking for the humor in each situation. Then one day that journey came to an end when her husband, George, was called home. Joyce continued to experience God’s leading when He brought her to River Oaks – first to attend and then to serve as Office Administrator. Joyce is passionate about her relationship with God and about serving in other ministries like visiting our shut-ins monthly, the card ministry, being part of the prayer team, Children’s Ministry, and Koinonia Ministry visiting the elderly at Trafalgar Lodge.
